Finding your YOU Target

So I’m discussing a job offer one of my friends had and his struggle with whether to accept it or nada.

I saw quickly that his dilemma came from an internal gray area. He didn’t have a true idea of his own personal brand.

I explained that it would help him if he created a YOU target. Using my concept of brand discovery, and applying a simple excercise, John quickly and easily gave himself a tool that he can now use for these type of decisions, among many other things.

Step 1: Skills - Define the 3 major skill sets that you possess. Mine are creative, educator and sales. John’s might be analytical, dependable and studious.

Step 2: Passions/Love - What do you love to do. What floats your boat. What would you do whether or not you get paid for it or not. John’s are exercise, reading and building.

Step 3: Income - How much money do you want to make AND how much are you worth? This is a bit different than the usual, just how much do you want to make. How much are you worth is not easy to come up with but there are ways. Do some research and be honest.

Step 4: Make your bulls eye. With these questions answered, you can begin to define the perfect most awesome job for yourself. When I say job it may be a business you want to start or whatever, just the thing you do for a living whether it’s for yourself or someone else.

Step 5: Make the rest of the target rings. Drawing concentric circles out, use the next level of words. When you’re finished, the closer the descriptions are to the center, the closer they are to making you completely happy and this will help guide decisions.

John realized that the job offer was way out on the edge of the target and that was the reason he was apprehensive about it in the first place.
